Why we Sell Direct

There are many forces driving the cabinetry and woodworking industry.  Many are not in the best interest of the homeowner.  Very few customers genuinely understand the product they are seeking.  Therefore, the industry tends to produce what is in the best interest of their bottom-line.  There are processes which add very little time and cost to the end product, but add greatly to the quality and longevity of the product.  Most often, these processes are neglected.

What most customers are seeking is a beautiful kitchen.  What most customers genuinely desire is much more.  You see, the kitchen is the one room of the home which is used as a manufacturing facility on a daily basis.  People tend to forget this important fact.  First and foremost, your kitchen is a production facility.  It should be designed as an awe inspiring and beautiful production facility.  If a beautiful kitchen is not functional, you will soon grow frustrated with it's shortcomings and start designing your new kitchen in your head almost immediately.

The problem appears, to us, is that cabinetry sales are not driven by the long-term satisfaction of it's customers.  Very few customers are repeat customers.  For most homeowners, buying cabinets is only done once every 20 to 30 years.  The financial incentive is not to truly aim for customer satisfaction.  The vast majority of all cabinetry is designed with another customer in mind.  The other customer is either a builder or a reseller.  If you build a product which is highly profitable for a builder or reseller/dealer, you will have no shortage of customers.

Herein lies the crux of the problem:  What dealers or builders are seeking in a cabinet supplier are usually at odds with what the homeowner truly wants and needs.  We address this by working directly with the homeowner.

What can you expect when you call Unorthobox

We take every customer contact personally.  We know that our business requires strong relationships and unparalleled service.  When you call Unorthobox, you will most likely speak with me, the owner of Unorthobox.   When you call, we'll discuss your project.  Whether it be a kitchen, a library, a wine room or something that doesn't have a name...something you've dreamed up and want to see come alive in your home.

Taking the time to provide a preliminary bid is something we do at no cost to you.  It's our opportunity to discuss your needs and style and how you want to use your space.  In most cases, we will want to visit the actual site.  In the event that your site isn't local to our Houston headquarters, we can discuss other alternatives.  If we find that your needs and desires meet with what we can offer, we would then discuss design deposits and we can begin the refinement of the final bid.  Depending on additional requirements and findings, the preliminary bid may be adjusted up or down to come to our final bid price.  Reasons the price may be adjusted can range from change sin wood species, accessories or changes in layout.  We endeavor to anticipate needs and gather

Are you affordable?

We are a bespoke cabinetry house specializing in the highest quality cabinetry and woodwork built to discerning standards.  Everything we do is custom and personal to each project, customer and home or office.  We strive for efficiency in all that we do, however, we use quality materials, employ quality craftsmen and believe in always doing all the steps necessary to deliver the finest end-product to you.   While we don't endeavor to be labeled as affordable, we believe we bring great value.  We have built life-long relationships with our customers using these proven techniques.  Selling direct allows us to eliminate costs and mark-up which ensure that you are paying for the quality craftsmanship, not margins.

Are there design limitations?

Generally speaking, no.  If it can be dreamed up, we can generally determine a way to bring your desires to life.  Unfortunately, there may be some practical considerations that can impact the final product.  A client once requested  a curved, leather topped desk which had been drawn to be 10 feet long by 6 feet wide.  The specific desire was to have a seamless piece of natural leather - it's size and simplicity a major design element.  Ultimately, the answer had to be "No" - that this desk was not possible to build as requested.  The shortcoming was that cows simply weren't large enough to accommodate a single piece of leather 10 ft x 6 ft.  The customer understood that a seam was required and we built a beautiful addition to their home.

What areas of the world do you service?

We are prepared to design, build and install cabinetry anywhere in the world.  Our work is in over 8 states and on both coasts. We install nearly all of our local projects, however, project sites outside of our immediate area can installed by Unorthobox or by an installer in your area.

Manufacturing cabinetry requires detailed plans and blueprints.  These tools allow us to provide comprehensive instructions both during the build process and ultimately, to facilitate an efficient and trouble-free installation.

Do you specialize in any wood species, style or materials?

We specialize in cabinetry and crafting designs from virtually any medium.

Ultimately, we haven't encountered a wood species, style or material that were were not able to incorporate into a design to meet the needs of our customers.  We learn daily and we're inspired continuously by the requests of our customers and the world around us.  If there is something you request which is new to our team, we'll be the first to let you know.  And you'll be the first to have the end result.

Do you have a minimum job size?

Yes.

Practicality will generally dictate job size.  There may be some projects which are determined to be financially impractical given the size, location and process which we employ.  When we discuss your project, we will honestly evaluate every aspect to determine if we are a good match for your needs.  Our goal is to have a positive experience with every project and that may mean we aren't suited for every situation.

What makes Unorthobox different?

We are bespoke.

When we were working on our name and brand communication, we were intrigued by the concept of bespoke and how it applied to us.  A long-time customer and  partner had encouraged us to use this word as he truly felt it encompassed our process and our product.

Bespoke means "..dealing in or producing custom-made articles".  Originally referring to clothes and the process of tailoring them to a person's body, we use it to illustrate our commitment to providing cabinetry that is tailored to you and your needs. We design to the finest detail and use the highest quality materials to produce something that is unique to you.

Many of our customers find that while they are drawn to the look and feel of the high-end contemporary European manufacturers, fundamentally, these manufacturers are often limited and are unable to meet the specific needs of a design.  We do not have the same requirements to mass produce to an offering as each of our projects are truly one-of-a-kind.  The result is exceptional style, quality and design as individual as you.

We have integrity.

We have a strong moral and artistic code that is at the very core of our beliefs.  It is not good enough to build the finest cabinetry, we must also find a way to impart an intangible value and essence into each project.  This extends beyond our interactions with customers and drives our philosophy as a business as well.  We embrace our goal to leave everyone and everything better than we found it.
